Just come and find the blonde in the hat in the queue.
Ask Donna. She did that at Brighton and I've been meeting her from trains at Victoria for London gigs ever since! |
Oi, make me sound like a right billy no mates
Since meeting quite a few boardies at a Chiefs gig back in '07 (god was it that long ago)It was a toss up between going on my own, or not going at all because my friend had got the flu. I am so glad I made the decision to meet Caramel I have made some brilliant friends, thanks to the board and never looked back at going to a gig on my own |
Hear hear.
I'm going to Cardiff too, and the blonde in the hat will be able to point me out! _________________ Facebook

Go on! 4th March, a Wednesday.
It's an overnighter for me, but only a couple of hours from here. Had to be done. I've never been to Wales before, really looking forward to it. _________________ Facebook

Me too
I have met some brilliant people since joining this forum and not a day goes by where I dont think about how nice and friendly most of you have been to me.
Even despite me coming across as a complete crank at times, you have been great and I've had so many great times and laughs along the way, I wouldn't have missed any of it for the world
Thankyou to those of you who have made it all what it was and still is... BRILLIANT
I could go to Cardiff too, I have family there, but its getting childcare _________________

Go on Beanie! It'd be great to see you as well.
Hmmm.... I'd love to go to Edinburgh, I've always wanted to go there, but I would be taking the mick with asking my Mum to baby/dog sit so much. _________________ Facebook

Don't even tempt me...
I've already planned to visit Liverpool 1 for some shopping, before going to Cafe Sports to refuel and then hunting down a copy of The Kop (to read during the supports) rounding off with afternoon coffee and cake in the Thorntons cafe... _________________ Life is about love, last minutes and lost evenings

CLEARLY you haven't been before then.
I'm 50/50 on Cardiff, but I do love going to any gigs on my own, I always end up meeting interesting people, and as some here can testify, I make friends quick enough. (Which may surprise some others on here. ) _________________ 14= Cardiff Uni, T4 2007, Cardiff CIA, Electric Proms, NME Big Gig, Elland Road, Isle of Wight Fest, V Fest, Reading, XFM Brixton, Apple Store, Birmingham NIA, Cardiff CIA, Wembley Arena |

*ignores fact that Beanie is talking to Blonde and starts packing for a trip to Beanie's house to look at the talent and wonder how the hell she ever gets anything done with all that lovely footballing ability so near* _________________ 2009 Nick - "I don't know where I am today to be honest with you"

I'm still living in hope that I can get to Cardiff, but my "mates" dont really like the Chiefs, and I'm damned if I'm going on my own. One day I will get to see them. |
I never thought I'd make the trip to a gig like that on my own, but I did it, and I'm so glad I did! I'm rather proud of the fact that I did it, so it really was worth it. And like RiverIsis and Lala and others have said, you'll meet other boardies there, and that makes it worth the effort as well.
I'm hoping that someday I can see Chiefs in the UK or Europe, but that won't be anytime soon. And unless I can find a decent job straight away, I can't even afford to see Chiefs in Chicago, NYC, or anyplace that involves traveling. I'm really hoping that one of those "few dates around Lollapalooza in the Summer" will be somewhere close to me! _________________ Hello Groovy!

I say just go for it anyway and go to a gig if you've got no friends to go with then surely some of the nice ppl on here will meet up with you.
I had the misfortune once of being at a gig completely on my own. The thing was i went with someone lost them within 5 mins of arrivial, they didn't have a phone with them to text to meet up and I just couldn't find them again.
I still had fun in fact it was one of the best gigs that I've ever been to, seriously how much time to you spend talking to whoever you're with once the band has gone on stage? Not a lot i'd say. _________________ 25/1/05 15/10/05 21/2/07 2/3/07 30/11/07 1/12/07 7/12/07 14/12/07 24/5/08 1/6/08 13/10/08 |

I doubt I would meet up with you crazy lot if I didnt know you
yes we kinda started the ball rolling with the big meet up of april 2005 but none of us knew each other we all went in blind therefore all in the same boat
now everyone knows each other so unless I had been speaking to someone on here for a long time no way would I go on the off chance that someone would take pity on me
otherwise its the old gooseberry position
also depends how far they live from Cardiff
strike a deal with a mate
they go see a band you love in return you see a band they love _________________ Falling through what’s left of the fractions

I'm going to Newcastle on me own, a year or two ago I wouldn't have dared go by myself but now wherever I go I always start chatting to someone in the queue whether it's a boardie, security guard, or just anyone who looks quite normal really.
Go for it.

because if I hadnt have been speaking to someone regularly then nothing would be arranged
therefore you go on the off chance you would meet someone you would want to talk to or would want to talk to you
pity because why if you are with your friends trying to catch up would you want to talk to a total stranger
again if I had been chatting on here to someone and arranged the meet I would have some idea of who they were and they would have an idea of who i was and would have some common ground |
Gottcha.
I took the 'someone I talk to' as someone who you actively talk to on the board regardless of the gig/meeting. This way the 'off chance' and 'pity' seems a bit mean. But of course you gotta arrange it first, so you'd know who you are looking for
I don't expect anyone to come over to me if we haven't arranged anything ask: "are you someone from the band forum who came in alone?" _________________ If you ask them, they will come!

Thats exactly what I did to RiverIsis. Even though we'd never met, I just somehow knew it was her. And I also knew I'd kick myself if I didn't introduce myself and talk to her.
